Treasurer

9th April 2005 - Goodbye

For the first time in ten years, I got up this morning without any expectation of the weekly bundle of subscriptions from the General Secretary falling through the letter box. It feels a bit uncanny and is going to take some getting used to, but I think I will manage to live with it.

A week ago at the AGM I presented my tenth and final set of annual accounts and was able to say, once again, that the financial affairs of the Society are in excellent order thanks to the efforts of all those who generate funds for the Society and those who run its affairs so economically.

I have enjoyed working for the Society and I am grateful for all the good wishes and kind remarks that I have received from so many people, but it is an excellent thing to have new blood and new ideas in managing the Society and I really do think that it was time for me to step down.

The new Treasurer, Peter Hudson from Hampshire, came to pick up the books a couple of days ago. No doubt it will take him a little while to get to grips with it all and start to do it his way, but I am sure that he will get your full support and do a fine job.

As ever, my best wishes to you all.

20th February 2005 - Annual accounts.

The annual audit of the accounts was completed yesterday by Whiteman & Co of St Albans and I am pleased to say that we were given a clean bill of health and that the finances are in good order.

I have passed on the necessary pages for the Annual Report to Brian Purnell and I want to take this chance to say "thanks" to all those who provided the data and helped to get the accounts put together in good shape and good time.

This is my tenth set of annual accounts and it will be my last, given that I am due to retire at the Annual General Meeting in April.

My best wishes to you all

Chris Carroll

9th December 2004 -  End-of-year accounts.

With the year-end rapidly approaching I am in the process of sending out reminders to all holders of floats, stock, bank statements etc that I need to have year-end information sent to me promptly.

Once the year end has passed, we have very little time to prepare annual accounts, get them audited and get reports written in time to send them to the General Secretary for printing and inclusion in the annual report.

If anyone has bills, invoices or receipts that affect the SCAS accounts, please send them to me ASAP.

If anyone is holding a SCAS cheque, please pay it into your bank promptly so that we are not left with payments carrying over the year end.

My thanks for your assistance

Chris Carroll

27th November 2004 - Record status applications and S.A.E.

From time to time, clubs and counties sending record status applications to SCAS for onward transmission to GNAS, include a stamped envelope addressed to GNAS. It is a thoughtful action, but not really necessary. Every week I send a bundle of mail to GNAS and it is always too large to put into a normal A4 envelope. Not only that, but in recent times the mail service has become so undependable that I have begun to send all important mail to GNAS by recorded delivery. As an example, the bundle that I sent to GNAS earlier this week went in a heavy duty concertina envelope and required postage of £1.95.

My advice to clubs and counties is therefore not to bother with an S.A.E.

Many thanks

Chris Carroll

26th November 2004 - Subscription payments

The vast majority of the payments are in and from my point of view it all went pretty smoothly. A few problems of course, mainly from new club and county officers who have not yet learned the ropes, but nothing to write home about. It is worth having a look at the notes for the guidance of club secretaries where there is a lot of good information on the completion of subscription forms etc.

The collection of subscriptions involves a large amount of work at club and county level and I am grateful to those involved for doing it so well.
